How Often Should You Service Your Motorcycle in WA?

"How often should I service my bike?" is one of the most common questions we get — and the honest answer is it depends on your model and how much you actually ride it. Here's how to work out what schedule actually applies to you.

Start with your owner's manual

Every manufacturer sets its own service intervals, and they vary more than people expect. As a rough guide, most manuals fall somewhere between 4,000km and 10,000km, depending on the bike's engine size and how it's tuned. A brand-new bike also needs an early first service — usually around the 800km mark — to check everything's bedded in properly.

It's not just about kilometres

Oil, seals and fluids degrade over time even if the bike's sitting in the shed. That's why most schedules are time-based as well as distance-based — generally every 6 months as a baseline. How often you actually ride shifts that:

Log book servicing

If your bike's still under manufacturer warranty, sticking to log book servicing at the correct intervals is what keeps that warranty valid. It's also just good practice for resale value later — a fully stamped service history is worth real money when you come to sell.

Signs you shouldn't wait for the "official" interval

• Noticeably rougher idle or hesitation on throttle
• Any new noise from the engine or drivetrain
• Brakes feeling spongier or less sharp than usual
• Any dashboard warning light

If any of that shows up, don't wait for the calendar or odometer — get it looked at. Small issues caught early are almost always cheaper to fix than the same issue after another few thousand kilometres.
